Winter, with it’s sub-zero temperatures and non-existent sunlight, is definitely prime movie watching season. Not to mention the fact that Christmas movies are in a league all of their own! I think everybody has go-to films that they watch at this time of year, and I am definitely no exception, so I thought that I would share with you five films that I am excited to stick on the telly this month…
- The Grinch
For full clarification, when I say that The Grinch is possibly my all time favourite Christmas movie I am referring to How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the movie which stars Jim Carrey in the very green eponymous role, and not one of the other versions. I wrote last year about how I was left a bit disappointed by the latest version of the the classic Seuss tale. Jim Carrey just does such a fantastic job as the spiteful Who and I’m sure the film makes my heart grow every year.
- Nutcracker And The Four Realms
Okay so since this film only came out in the cinemas last year it is clearly a new addition but I think that it has definitely earned it’s place. It takes the classic ballet storyline and adds a fresh twist to make it thoroughly movie worth, and you can check out my full review here.
- Arthur Christmas
When I went to see this movie in the cinema the year that it was released, I instantly declared it to be one of my favourites much like I did with the Nutcracker. I wrote a review where I talk about the movie in more depth, but in short it’s a film about the efforts that Santa’s hapless son Arthur goes to after he realises that one child is going to wake up on Christmas morning without a present.
- Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas
Am I an adult? Yes. Is this film meant for adults? Not really, but it’s kind of become a staple in my Christmas build up. It’s one film about the true meaning of Christmas depicted through a series of mini movies starring everybody’s favourite classic Disney characters, including Mickey and Minnie, Huey, Dewy and Louis and Goofy and Max. Yes, I did originally have it on VHS.
- Muppet’s Christmas Carol
This is another one which just seems to have become a bit of a classic. There are many versions of A Christmas Carol – one of the ultimate Christmas stories – but the Muppets one will probably always be my favourite.
What are you watching this Christmas? Let me know in the comments!
