“I guess it’s natural for parents to cry on their kid’s first day of school, but you know this normally happens when the kid is 5. I’m 16.”
Set your mind back 10 years. The year is 2003, and one particular young lady is away to steal the teen chick flick movie scene. Her name was Lindsay Lohan- fresh faced, red haired and vaguely familiar from playing the twins in Parent Trap. She was the perfect role model for teenage girls everywhere, and as she took leading roles in Freaky Friday, Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen, Herbie Fully Loaded and most popularly Mean Girls the female teenage population across the world was hit with LiLo fever. It was short lived though, as the Disney-esque star tumbled head first off the rails of perfection into a big pile of convictions, rehab and dodgy tattoos. LiLo fever died almost instantly as she found herself brazened across every media outlet possible…and never for the right reasons. She was no longer the girl that everybody wished they could be.
I can’t help but notice that nobody has filled her shoes. Here we sit in 2013, with girls idolising the stars who have already fallen off the rails (although perhaps not as badly as LiLo did)…because there is nobody else out there. The teenage girls of today do not have a Cady Heron to teach them about life, and I find that really quite sad.
The big question is…who would be fit of filling the shoes that Miss Lohan so tragically left behind? Tell me what you think!
