Why You Need A Brilliantly British Break In The Capital | Contributed Content

This year you’re looking forward to enjoying some stay-cations with your best friends. Hopping on a plane and travelling the world seems appealing to many, but your travel bucket list consists of plenty brilliantly British destinations. The lovely London town has always been one of your favourite places; the red buses, the rush in the air and the famous landmark make it all the more appealing to you. If you are planning an adventure in the capital, here are a handful of things you might want to do.

Perfect Planning

When you get to London it can be incredibly overwhelming; tube map looks pretty confusing and everybody always seems to be in a rush. Wherever you are staying, you need to figure out your route on the tube first and foremost. Planning this in advance will save you time when you arrive and it will prevent the scornful looks from regular London commuters. You should also research things to do in London, so that you can schedule your time effectively. London is a big city, so you will want to clump together certain activities that are in a similar borough. Perhaps there is a quirky rooftop bar in Shoreditch that you want to try or a fabulous restaurant in Chelsea you’ve been dying to go to. Make sure you map out your bucket list before you get there, so you know you can fit everything into your trip.

Cool Classics

When you’re in London you have to tick the tourist destinations of your bucket list. Firstly, head to Green Park station where you will be able to see the beautiful Buckingham Palace (time it right and you will see the changing of the guards!). A short walk through Green Park will take you near to the Southbank. Here you will be able to see Big Ben, take a stroll across London Bridge, ride the London Eye and even visit the London Dungeon experience. That will fill up an entire day, but make sure you book your tickets for all the attractions beforehand, otherwise you risk waiting around in long tedious queues. For places such as the London Dungeons, Madame Tussauds and the London Sea Life Aquarium, you will be given a specific time slot, so spread out the timings throughout the day to give you ample time for each experience.

Magical Musicals

In the evening, it is time to relax with a cocktail, dinner and a West End Musical. London theatre is extremely popular, especially at the weekends, so make sure you book your tickets in advance. Whether you want to see the classic Les Miserables in action or you fancy a more humorous evening out watching the hilarious Book of Mormon, there really will be a show for everybody’s tastes. If Fringe theatre is more your thing, then the Underbelly (at the Southbank) is open all summer, with a variety of cheap and cheerful shows. From circus acts to comedians, you will see a whole range of acts on every day.
