Welcome Back: where I’ve been, what happened and why I decided to change everything.

Yes you read that right! In case you haven’t already noticed, some big changes have been occurring over here at Kirsty Through The Looking Glass HQ, and I guess to some extent you deserve an explanation as to why this is. This blog is not a baby anymore – if it was an actual human being it would have just started school – but for various reasons it has suffered from long periods of neglect. This is why I have decided to store all of the original KTTLG posts in one place – so don’t worry, all of your favourite … Continue reading Welcome Back: where I’ve been, what happened and why I decided to change everything.

The Perils of Being Too Nice.

There’s this misconception that being a nice person is, well, nice.  Sometimes this is true, the warm glow when you help somebody out, the gratitude, the appreciation, the recognition.  It’s a little bit lovely, for lack of a better word.  Being nice isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be though, and I increasingly find myself coming to the realisation that ‘nice’ is just a euphemism for ‘pushover’.  It’s also worth noting that not all nice people are the same, but this blog concerns the people who are like me…the people who are TOO nice. Over the past few weeks I … Continue reading The Perils of Being Too Nice.

The Best Song Ever

I listen to One Direction, I have no shame.  One Direction have a song called ‘Best Song Ever’, and like so many other One Direction songs I will have a little song and dance along, because I’m basically Zayn’s replacement.  As pretentious as the title sounds, the song is not necessarily claiming to be the best song ever(which is just as well, because it’s not and that would be a lie and lying is bad).  It is in fact the (debatably) beautiful story of what happened to one of the lads when he met a pretty girl and a great … Continue reading The Best Song Ever

Sextinction

So my flatmate and I watched a movie one night and then we were talking and it was 2am and somehow the conversation was turned to the all important question…how did dinosaurs have sex?  You know, the kind of thing that you generally only wonder at 2am.  I don’t really know why the internet exists but if it’s not so that you can find some kind of answer to your 2am musings then it is wasted. What our Google search did find was a beautiful Buzzfeed article which did exactly what we asked it to. It even has a picture of a … Continue reading Sextinction

To Blog Or Not To Blog…

So WordPress, long time no see eh? I last posted almost a year ago, and admittedly it has been 2 years since you had the TLC you deserved, and so much has happened since then, and I’ve had to work through it all without you by my side which was just weird! The start of this week saw me seriously asking myself if I should start writing again. I wanted to, deep inside, more than anything. I wanted to return to that little corner of cyber space that gave me a channel to vent my borderline insanity and outrageous lesbianistic … Continue reading To Blog Or Not To Blog…

Things I Learnt This Weekend.

I spent my weekend at Enterprise North East Scotland’s Enterprise Challenge 2014.  The Enterprise Challenge is an annual even for people from Grampian and Tayside who are aged 18-30 and either run their own business, are starting up their own business or are interested in starting up their own business in the future, and poses participants with a series of physical and mental challenges to replicate the emotional rollercoaster of self employment.  I’m not going to tell you what shenanigans we got up to, just in case you fancy having a go yourself, instead I am going to share with … Continue reading Things I Learnt This Weekend.

WMO: Chatroom

So since I’ve been busy wading through my Guiding life, and ignoring the rest of life, I am going to apologise by presenting you with a new ‘subdivision’ of ‘Kirsty Through The Looking Glass’, which I have, rather creatively, named ‘WATCH ME ONCE!’ (or WMO for convenience).  This is going to be a series of short, spoiler free promotions/reviews of all the movies which I feel that you should watch at least once in your life.  Maybe because they are brilliant, or thought provoking.  Or maybe it’s a movie which is so bad that it’s funny.  I’m not saying that … Continue reading WMO: Chatroom

Migraines: The Mental Muck Up

June has been earmarked as ‘Migraine Awareness Month’, and this is a cause which is close to my heart.  To read more about my personal migraine story, you can read A Hole in the Head.  Anybody who suffers from the disease will understand the frustrations, and the importance of the unofficial strap line “It’s more than just a headache”. In this post I want to introduce you to a young woman who I never met, yet who broke my heart a little.  Her name is Melissa Dwyer and, despite the fact that migraines are not a ‘life threatening’ illness, she … Continue reading Migraines: The Mental Muck Up
