Reading Wrapped: January 2025

I opened up my drafts file and found a draft blog called “What I Read In January” and thought, wow I don’t remember starting to write this the other day… So I opened the file and low and behold was met with this sentence, and this sentence only:

“On my mission to read more in 2024, I have ‘read’ 5 books in January which trust me sounds an awful lot more impressive than it is!”

Considering I consumed 3 books in 2023, 5 books indeed WAS impressive for the month of January last year. It was also an eye opener for how long I’ve been neglecting this blog, oops.

I take your 5 books in January 2024 and I raise you… 12 books in January 2025.

I also agree that 12 books feels ridiculous for a month, even if it is the longest month of the year. I can attribute some of the surge to being off work for a week with whiplash and other injuries, and also I have taken to reading novellas and short stories. Reading 12 novellas is a lot less impressive than reading the Crescent City series four times (if you know you know), but both count in the statistics as 12 books.

My most popular genres in January were romance and horror – again neither are genres I ever thought would be featuring on my lists. My consumption of stories was divided to 50% audiobooks, 42 ebooks and 8% print books, and I had a total 442 pages and 73 hours of audio. My one physical book, if you’re wondering, was Girls In Love by Jacqueline Wilson.

On average, the books I read in January were rated 3.6 stars, which I feel is pretty good going! This was spread between 2.75 and 4.25, with 4 4-star books! My lowest rated book of the month was There’s A Giant Trapdoor Spider Under Your Bed by Edgar Cantero, part of the Dark Corners collection. My highest rated book was A Touch Of Darkness by Scarlett St Clair, the first installment of the PersephonexHades Saga. My 4-star reads were A Game Of Fate (SSC), Phantasma (Kaylie Smith), The Tao Of Pooh (Benjamin Hoff) and Hannah Beast (Jennifer McMahon).

I think that concludes my summary of the stories I consumed (because you just can’t read an audiobook) in January 2025. You can join me on Goodreads or Storygraph, I’m KirstyTTLG on both! What have you been reading? Tell me in the comments…
